To kick off the Day 2 General Session, the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration will present the prestigious National Gold Medal Awards.

Following the National Gold Medal Awards, our Day 2 General Session will showcase new NRPA youth sports funding opportunities alongside a panel discussion on innovative strategies to increase participation in youth sports. Our panelists will highlight best practices in coach training, community engagement and partnerships. You will leave this session with practical tools to promote high-quality, fun and impactful youth sports programs to get every kid in the game.

Phil Ginsburg

General Manager, San Francisco Recreation and Parks (moderator) 

Phil Ginsburg oversees more than 4,100 acres and 230 city parks, including world-renowned Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower and the Palace of Fine Arts. He has focused the department’s objectives on increasing fair access to public recreation.

Mike Barsotti

Director of Youth Sports, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation 

Mike Barsotti is responsible for athletics resources and programming across Philadelphia. He partners with various stakeholders to increase opportunities for young people in high quality sports programs.

Rebecca Brandtman, CPRP

Deputy Director of Program Information, Chicago Park District

Born and raised in Chicago, Rebecca Brandtman grew up in the city’s parks and now dedicates her career to giving back. She designs and leads programs that serve thousands of young people across the city. 

Bernita Reese, CPRP

Director, City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department 

Bernita Reese has spent her career working with public, private and military recreation. She serves on numerous boards and has worked nationally and internationally in recreation, but her core service is working with people.
